Bloomberg reports Apple will launch its smart home push in October

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports Apple plans to finally launch a range of smart home devices on October 13th, previously scheduled to launch in March 2025. Gurman expects the centerpiece to be a smart home hub codenamed J490 and for Apple to also announce the first update to the HomePod mini since 2020 as well as the first new Apple TV since 2022. 9to5Mac reports the hub design was inspired by the iMac G4 and features a 6-inch display with facial recognition and Siri.

Amazon just refreshed its Fire TV Stick 4K

Amazon launched the next-gen of the their Fire TV Stick 4k, with Vega OS, supporting Wi-Fi 6, 4K 60fps video, and promising faster app launches by 35% and up to 20% faster playback. The unit features Direct Power, able to run from a TV’s USB port without needing a wall adapter. It also comes with a redesigned remote with more tactile buttons of varying shapes to make navigating by touch easier. It’s available now in North America, Japan, and a big chunk of Europe, alongside Australia and New Zealand. However, only those in the United States have access to a limited time offer to grab the updated stick for $30 instead of the $60 standard price.

Amazon’s new Fire TV interface and mobile app will come with Alexa+ upgrades

Amazon also announced more specific upgrades coming to the Fire TV interface in the United States beginning in November. Fire TV will be able to integrate live content from over 40 different apps: including Peacock, YouTube TV, and Sling. Access to cloud gaming from Amazon Luna, Xbox, and Nvidia GeForce Now will be available within a centralized games hub. Alexa+ will receive updates to improve its reasoning capabilities and ability to answer more complex question, including being able to integrate info from links provided by the user. These features will roll out to other countries in 2027.

DeepSeek partners with Huawei to develop chip programming tools, reducing reliance on Nvidia

On Wednesday, Chinese AI firm DeepSeek announced a partnership with Huawei Technologies to develop open-source programming tools for Huawei’s Ascend chips. DeepSeek specifically noted the collaboration includes the release of the programming language TileLang as an alternative to Nvidia’s Compute Unified Device Architecture, better known as CUDA.

Apple Pay now rolling out to Axis Bank customers in India

10 years after its launch in the United States, Apple Pay is now available in India on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch for eligible Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard members. Apple says Apple Pay is not meant to replace India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which supports a large number of banks. Apple says wider support is coming, but did not specify how many or which banks would be next.

OpenClaw launches free enterprise control plane for persistent AI agents, backed by OpenAI, Red Hat and Nvidia

The OpenClaw Foundation announced OpenClaw Enterprise (OCE), a free, MIT-licensed open-source platform to deploy and manage persistent AI agents in corporate networks. OCE is meant to address the risks for running agents on corporate networks by providing a centralized governance layer with strict security boundaries, granular permissions, and audit trails, as well as the option to self-host. OCE is now an independent open-source project being developed with contributions from Red Hat and Nvidia. A 1.0 release is planned for later in 2026.

Tinder adapts to a social, IRL dating future with ‘Group Hangouts’ feature

On Wednesday, online dating app Tinder launched “Group Hangouts” in select markets, for free. The new feature enables groups of friends to match and make plans with other groups based around shared activities. Those in a conversation are able to exit without leaving the friend group, with options to block or report others if any issues arise. There is a maximum of 15 people per group and a minimum of 3 to get started.

Xbox’s Mythic Achievements are here and they’re just like PlayStation Platinum trophies

If you’re an Xbox Insider and haven’t logged into your Xbox account in a while, you might have some new trophies waiting for you to show off. Xbox Mythic Achievements, which leaked earlier this month, are basically the same as PlayStation’s Platinum Trophies, automatically unlocked once all other achievements are achieved. Mythic Achievements will be unlocked for games going all the way back to the Xbox 360. Back when we had the time to chase every last one.
