OpenAI Cuts Off Cursor After SpaceXAI Deal
OpenAI says it will end Cursor’s access to its models starting November 12th, after the AI coding assistant was acquired by SpaceXAI. Cursor can choose to end the partnership earlier, but OpenAI says it is not confident SpaceX will follow its terms of service, citing its “experience with Elon Musk’s companies violating contracts.” There is a lot of history here, since Musk was an early OpenAI backer and has been fighting with the company for years.

South Korea Makes AI a Public Service
The Wall Street Journal’s sources say South Korea wants to give every citizen free access to premium-level generative AI services. The “AI for All” program is expected to start beta testing in September, with a full launch by the end of the year. The government is also putting about $7.2 billion into AI initiatives for 2026, making this as much about national AI strategy as consumer access.

The US Looks at Remote AI Compute Loopholes
The Information’s sources say the US administration is weighing export controls aimed at Chinese access to advanced AI compute through remote servers in countries like Thailand and Singapore. The Commerce Department could share a draft rule with trade groups as soon as September, though it is not clear how cleanly remote access can be regulated like physical chip exports. This comes after claims that Moonshot used overseas Nvidia-equipped servers to train Kimi K3.

Tencent Joins the Giant Model Race
Tencent released Hy4 Preview, a foundation model with 770 billion parameters and a 1 million-token context window. The company says it beats Z.ai and Moonshot AI in internal tests, which is worth treating as Tencent’s own benchmark claim. Still, it shows another Chinese tech giant trying to move closer to the top tier of AI model labs.

X Says It Found an Anti-Data-Center Bot Farm
X says it found a China-linked bot farm with roughly 200,000 suspected inauthentic accounts, including hundreds posting about US AI data centers, energy costs, and grid reliability. That could be a real information operation, but local opposition to data centers is not exactly hard to find. The power, water, and land-use concerns are already very real.

Alphabet Settles a UK Google Play Fight
Alphabet agreed to pay £260 million to settle a UK class action lawsuit over Google Play fees. The lawsuit accused Google of abusing Android app store dominance by charging unfair commissions to developers, though Alphabet did not admit liability. The settlement avoids a 10-week trial and reportedly sends £160 million to UK app developers.

Meta Fixes Another Smart Glasses Privacy Problem
Meta is updating its smart glasses so recording stops if someone covers the capture LED after video has already started. That loophole let people hide the light meant to alert anyone in the frame. Meta says only a small number of users try to bypass the safeguards, but needing another fix does not exactly calm the privacy concerns around camera glasses.

Nvidia’s DLSS 5 Leaks Early
A leaked version of Nvidia’s DLSS 5 is already being tested by modders in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto V, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The files appear to come from an early-access build of NBA 2K27, ahead of Nvidia’s official fall launch. Early reactions sound mixed: better detail and lighting in some cases, but also performance hits and visuals that can look too AI-smoothed.

OPPO May Be Going All-In on 200 Megapixels
Trusted leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that the OPPO Find X10 Pro Max could be the first phone with three 200-megapixel rear cameras. That would mean a 200-megapixel main camera, telephoto camera, and ultrawide camera. The phone could arrive in September or October, but for now this is still firmly in leak territory.

Cyborg Cockroaches for Disaster Rescue
Researchers at the University of Queensland are testing remote-controlled giant burrowing cockroaches that can carry cameras and tiny drug injectors into spaces rescuers cannot reach. The team says the “paraborgs” hit close-range injection targets 95% of the time when they got within 15 centimeters, while the full navigation-and-injection task worked in 72% of trials. The idea is to use cyborg insect teams in collapsed buildings or caves within five to 10 years.
