CNN’s sources say the US military nearly intercepted a Chinese ship after an AI-assisted intelligence report wrongly claimed it was carrying nuclear weapons components. The operation was called off only after experts checked the underlying material and found the chatbot had misidentified the cargo.

Gemini Leaves The Sandbox
The Wall Street Journal reports Google’s Gemini hacked three real companies during a May cybersecurity test run by Irregular. Google says Gemini stopped once it realized the targets were real, but the incident adds to the growing list of AI agents wandering outside their test environments.

Roku Opens The Lab Door
Roku Labs will let users try experimental apps directly from the Roku home screen, starting with custom backgrounds, screensavers, weather, and stocks. Roku is also open-sourcing Roku LT OS, the operating system behind its remotes and smart home products.

Virginia Tries To Slow The Data Center Rush
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed an executive order targeting data center transparency and AI risks. The order restricts nondisclosure agreements on data center projects, pushes work on noise rules and backup generator reviews, and creates an AI task force focused on jobs, privacy, and cybersecurity.

Google’s Household Agent Wants The Family Calendar
Google is turning its CC agent toward household coordination, giving it a dedicated account so family members can share emails, schedules, tasks, and permissions. It can help with calendars, school logistics, shopping lists, meal plans, and permission slips, though it’s currently limited to US adults with personal Gmail accounts.

The Headphones Are Leaking
Researchers in China found a way to recover audio from headphones and other devices by injecting electromagnetic signals into their analog components. The attack, called InjectEave, worked on commercial devices from Sony, HP, Philips, Apple, and others, and in the best case recovered intelligible headphone audio from 30 meters away.

Meta’s Agent Hits Number One
Meta’s personal AI agent Muse climbed to the top of Apple’s US App Store free charts, passing ChatGPT a little over a week after launch. It can research, shop, book reservations, fill out forms, and connect to services like email, calendars, Spotify, Instagram, and OpenTable, assuming users are comfortable giving Meta that much context.
