Microsoft is currently testing further improvements to Windows 11’s File Explorer through the Insider program. A November update added an option to preload File Explorer in the background to improve performance, but this did not address other issues like the bright white flashes when opening File Explorer in dark mode or spotty reliability in stopping explorer.exe after closing explorer windows. These issues should be addressed in this latest build in the Preview Channel.

Chinese smartphone maker Honor’s humanoid robot, named “Lightning”, won a half-marathon in Beijing over the weekend. Lightning completed the race in 50 minutes, 26 seconds, beating 12,000 humans, and surpassing the world record by 7 minutes. The robot crashed into a railing in the last leg of the race and received assistance to get back on track and complete the race. Honor robots also took second and third place. In last year’s event, only six of twenty-one robots crossed the finish line, with many stumbling, going out of control, or just laying down at the start line.

The Financial Times reports Match Group’s CEO Spencer Rascoff pledged to make increasing the number women on dating app Tinder his “primary focus”. Though Match Group does not publish the gender breakdown of Tinder, Sensor Tower estimates approximately 75% of users are male. Tinder is testing several features to encourage women to use the app, like double dates to bring along friends to make meeting strangers a little less risky. Previously Tinder had an 11% annual decline and last quarter the drop improved to 8.5%. Rascoff told the Financial Times, “It’s ridiculous to say people don’t like dating apps” adding “people don’t like dating apps that are ineffective”.

Pasta sauce company Prego teamed up with non-profit StoryCorps to make a tabletop device with two microphones to record conversations around the dinner table. The device resembles a hockey puck, must be activated and stopped manually, contains no AI or cloud connection abilities, with audio saved in CD quality on a 16GB microSD card. StoryCorp aims to record and preserve stories from Americans. Any recordings voluntarily shared with StoryCorps will be preserved in the US Library of Congress in the StoryCorps collection. The companies say the purpose of the project is to encourage people to stay off their phones during dinner. Only around 100 devices will be available, making it similar to a previous KFC stunt with a console designed to keep chicken warm, that only had a few units constructed.
