OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says artificial intelligence has reached the “singularity,” claiming AI systems are now capable of improving themselves. Meta and BlackRock Invest $14 Billion in AI Data Center

Meta and BlackRock are partnering on a $14 billion AI data center in El Paso, Texas, underscoring the enormous investment flowing into AI infrastructure. The facility is part of Meta’s broader $600 billion infrastructure strategy through 2028, aimed at building gigawatt-scale data centers to power its personal superintelligence ambitions. Despite the aggressive expansion, investors remain cautious over the project’s long-term profitability and operating costs.

Apple Launches Device Leasing Program with Klarna

Apple has introduced a new leasing program in partnership with Klarna, allowing U.S. customers to pay monthly for iPhones, Apple Watches, Macs, and iPads. At the end of each lease, customers can upgrade, purchase, or return their devices. The move replaces Apple’s legacy financing programs while offering trade-in incentives and Apple Card benefits, helping offset recent hardware price increases driven by supply chain challenges.

Pocket Casts Arrives on Apple TV

Microsoft has announced Project Perception, an agentic cybersecurity platform that uses multiple AI agents to detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats. Its custom MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model reportedly achieved a 96% score on the CyberGym benchmark while outperforming Anthropic’s Mythos model at roughly half the cost. Public preview begins on August 3.

Visa Cuts 7% of Workforce

Visa plans to eliminate approximately 2,600 jobs, or about 7% of its workforce, primarily within its technology and product teams. ChatGPT No Longer Mimics Famous Authors

OpenAI has updated ChatGPT so it will no longer directly imitate the writing style of well-known authors. Instead, the chatbot now produces writing that captures the broader characteristics of an author’s work without closely copying their voice. The policy change comes as OpenAI continues to navigate multiple copyright lawsuits and ongoing legal questions surrounding AI-generated content.
