Chips, spies, and empty offices

A US intelligence memo identified Alice Huang as an asset of China’s Ministry of State Security, according to The New York Times. The executive was reportedly recruited to gather intelligence on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and potentially influence access to advanced chips. House committee leaders want a closed-door briefing; Nvidia calls his customer interactions routine, and China’s embassy disputes the reporting.

A separate Times investigation found that some Chinese firms approved to buy or handle H200 chips have ties to blacklisted companies or military suppliers, with two listed offices apparently empty. Analysts suspect possible fronts or offshoots of restricted firms; Commerce says it reviews every application for national security risks.
