  1. Regarding the in-cabin electronics ban… some commentators are pointing to two things.

    (1) last February a passenger on a Daallo Airlines flight exploded a bomb in his laptop leaving a hole in the fuselage… soon exited by the bomber… killing him but no one else. This… while not a success… is understood to be the template for an upcoming attack.

    (2) the fall of Mosul is seen as the impetus for a new terror attack on America. The idea here is that ISIS fighters are headed home… back into the mainstream of their home countries… but are still radicalized and engaged to strike the USA.

The US intel communities are concerned that 1 + 2 means bad news for the upcoming few months of air travel although they are officially denying they have knowledge of any specific new plot.

In other words this is like the liquid ban all over again… no security official every got fired for inconveniencing the public because of too much concern.
